About the complex
Built so no one learns to swim by accident.
This pool exists because of one person’s conviction that swimming shouldn’t be left to chance. Here’s his story, and why we treat every lesson like it matters more than a hobby.
The founder
Monir Hossain didn’t set out to build another pool.
He’d watched too many kids splash around a pool for years without ever really learning to swim, and too many adults quietly avoid the water altogether because no one had taught them properly when it mattered. So he built a place where that gap gets closed on purpose — a coach in the water, a structure to follow, and lessons that don’t stop at “comfortable” until a swimmer is actually competent.
That’s who this complex is for: children who’ve never been in deep water, adults who never got the chance the first time around, and anyone in between who wants to swim properly instead of just staying afloat. Monir still runs it the same way he started it — hands-on, at his desk most mornings and on deck most afternoons.
The complex, opening day
Swimming isn’t recreation here. It’s the one skill that decides what happens the day everything goes wrong.
Bangladesh has more open water around its children than most countries — ponds, canals, rivers, the sea. Most people who can’t swim were never actually taught; they were just told to be careful. That’s not a survival skill, that’s luck. We treat swimming the way we’d treat any other skill someone’s life might depend on: taught deliberately, practiced until it holds under pressure, and never assumed.
